Drivers warming up on Elvis

Drivers warming up on Elvis

April 19th in Hingham, MA.  Luckily, 19 racers, not 20 or 21, showed up for a great day of East Coast HO Outlaws racing on the challenging Elvis Raceway in the Ryer’s diminutive (Diminutive? Somebody is looking to pit outside – PR) basement.  His upstairs could hold at least another 10 folks so we’d just take over the upstairs too if we had to.

Racing classes included ECO Sportsman class chassis with Trans-Am bodies attached, ECO Fairgrounds class chassis with vintage AFX IMSA-style bodies(Porsche’s, Datsun’s etc) and ECHORR SS class.  The Sportsman race was an absolutely slug fest in every corner just like the real cars used to be and taking the win local icon John Reimels with a total of 101 laps. 2nd place was CT’s hot shoe, Greg W who did 98 laps followed by CT brother by a different mother, Russ Upton with 97 laps in 3rd.

Fairgrounds Class with IMSA bodies was also a blast to watch the smaller bodied Datsun’s get the best of the big ole’ Vette’s for most of the top spots. Greg W’s Vette tried to best the local good ole’ boys, Reimels, Ryer and Colligan but the South Shore Mafia gets the podium this time. Reimels got the win by running 117 laps. 2nd was Jim C with 115 and Paul Ryer gets a 3rd place plaque by running 114.28 laps vs Greg W’s 114.14 sections for 4th. Bob F had some tough times but managed 72 laps (Sorry Bob, we’ll have something better for you next time. – PR).

ECHORR SS class racing finished the day on a high note (Hmmm, I seem to remember this as the second race of the day, but OK – PR). Lap difference from 1st to last was only 30 laps and that was only due to some worn out tires and couple of hairy crashes. Elvis himself would be proud of how good all of our cars are getting. Showing the local boys up in this one was Greg B who had almost two laps over track owner Ryer on this day. Greg B had 107.29 laps for the win and just a half lap behind him was his arch enemy Greg W who had 107.14 laps. Paul Ryer (I got Greg’ed! – PR) again gets a 3rd place plaque by running 106 laps. 7th and 8th between Russ U and Pat D was a close one also, both with 101 laps. Upton got the better spot by 8 sections over Dube. Bob F and Paul M battled for a total of 91 laps but Farnsy having 8 sect. to Paul’s 4. 17th and 18th were Jim H and TJ, both with 90 laps. Jim had 21 vs T’s 13 and Steve N totaled 87 laps (and will be back with new tires next race).
