April 22, 2023,  “The Spinout”

On Saturday April 22, 16  Outlaws arrived at Paul Ryer’s in Hingham to race Grand National, E- Fray with Trans Am bodies and Magnatraction with Nascar bodies on the King Track nicknamed “Elvis”.  The King track in 1/64 scale is modeled after the the 1/24 scale track but has the infield modified to make it a more challenging track for the racers.

After  practice, cars were teched , Dave held the drivers meeting.   After the meeting racers voted for the best appearing car and Big Greg was awarded best appearing.

Grand National Race

Greg continued his winning ways by racking up 85 laps with our host Paul Ryer scoring 83 laps for second place.  Greg scored one lap more in the yellow and red lanes.  The rest of the field was in another time zone but Bruce Olsen took the final step on the podium with 79 laps outdueling Pitstop by 4 sections!  I think this was Bruce’s first Outlaw podium… Congrats Bruce.  Pitstop, Dave, Terry, Joe Rinn and Peter Lentros rounded out the top half of the field

E-Fray with Trans Am bodies

Peter Lentros ran away and hid with his blazing fast E-Fray car with 108 laps.  Peter turned the most laps in three lanes and tied for most in the blue lane. Jimmy stunned the field by talking second with 105 (Congrats Jimmy!) laps and Dave took the final step on the podium with 104 laps. Jimmy and Dave matched each other’s lap totals in the green, yellow and red lanes but Jimmy scored one more lap in the blue lane.  Paul Ryer, Big Greg, Donnie, Joe Rinn and Terry rounded out the top half of the field.

Magnatraction with Nascar bodies

The Outlaws fastest class didn’t provide a surprise winner as Paul Ryer completed his sweep of the four Magnatraction races this season turning 121 laps.  Should we call it the Grand Slam and start tracking when an Outlaw sweeps all four races in a class for the season and present him with a memento of the achievement?  Big Greg took another podium just a lap behind Paul with 120 laps and Jimmy bested Peter Lentros by sections with 114 laps to take his second podium of the day.  Peter, Dave, Jim Kostinden, Terry and Donnie filled out the top half of the field.  ( Terry and Donnie both turning the same # of laps and sections)

It was a fun day of racing and thank you Paul for your hospitality.

Our next race will be Museum Madness at Lenjet on May 20th.  Classes will be Grand National, Jalopy and Coupes.
