July 29, 2023 | Jim Colligan July 15, 2023, “2nd Summer Series Race” On Saturday July 15th 17 Outlaws arrived at Lenjet Raceway to conduct it’s annual meeting and then race Nostalgia on the Shamrock Glen, Fray/SS on the Bear and IROC on the Champion. The Summer Series is not part of the Outlaw Season. It’s low key, no plaques for finishing position, no best appearing award and entry fees don’t go to the club treasury. Just a chance to get together to race After the Rules Meeting, there was a short practice, cars were teched , Dave held the drivers meeting and we started racing Nostalgia on Shamrock Glen Nostalgia isn’t an Outlaw class. We only run the class in the Summer Series. The driving challenge on the Shamrock Glen is that the 2 lanes have the driving stations on one side of the L shaped track and 2 lanes have the stations on the other side of the L. This gives an entirely different perception as the cars that were passing across in front of the driver are now going away and toward the driver and vice versa when you shift lanes and driving stations. That didn’t stop Pitstop (79 laps) from taking the win by less than a lap from Dave Lockwood (78 laps) by less than a lap with Flash (77laps) taking the final step on the podium. Peter Lentros, Paul Ryer, Big Greg, Dave Panich (veteran racer but new to HO and a new member), Bruce and Joe Rinn finishing out the top half of the field. Fray/SS on the Bear Peter Lentros turned (109.32) laps to take the win over Paul Ryer (109 laps 31 sections) to take the win by 1 section!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pitstop took third with 107 laps. Racing was fast and furious at the sharp end of the field. Flash, Big Greg, Dave Lockwood, Joe Rinn, Dave Panich, and Jimmy rounded out the top half of the field IROC on the Champion Dave Lockwood provided a set of tjets with pans and Ajs wheels and tires. The field was on the smaller side as a number of racers left considering it had already been a long day. Dave took the win with 86 laps with Paul 2 laps behind. Peter Lentros took 3rd a lap back of Paul. Terry and Hal rounded out the top half of the field. As is typical of IROC races the racing is close with the top four finishers finishing within a 4 lap spread. It was a fun day of racing and thank you Peter for your hospitality. Our next race will be our final race of the Summer Series race August 19th . We’ll race Nostalgia on Python, E-Fray on the Bear, Fray/SS on the Shamrock Glen.
