September 4, 2023 | Jim Colligan August 19th, 2023, “3rd Summer Series Race” On Saturday August 19th 11 Outlaws arrived at Lenjet Raceway for the last Summer Series race of the season with Nostalgia on the Python, E-Fray on the Bear and Fray/SS on the Shamrock Glen. The Summer Series is not part of the Outlaw Season. It’s low key, no plaques for finishing position, no best appearing award and entry fees don’t go to the club treasury. Just a chance to get together to raceAfter practice, cars were teched , Dave held the drivers meeting and we started racing Nostalgia on Python Nostalgia isn’t an Outlaw class. We only run the class in the Summer Series. The challenge in driving the Python is that half the circuit is flowing and fast and half the circuit is full of tight hairpins that have ruined many a driver’s race. There is also a long straight so you need power but if you run too much spring tension on your pickup shoes, you’re doomed in the hairpins. Paul Ryer took the win with a total of 83 laps with Peter in second with 81 laps and Donnie Hall taking the last step on the podium over Dave Lockwood by sections with 80 laps. Jim Kostinden and Jimmy C rounded out the top half of the field. E-Fray on the Bear The Bear is probably the most difficult track we race on at Lenjet with a mixture of a long straight, a couple of hairpins and squiggles but most of us have run on it enough to be able to get around but the track is aptly named for newcomers! Dave took the win with 107 laps with Paul a lap behind with 106 laps to take second. Donnie took third with 102 laps. Joe Rinn turned a 100 laps to make it 4 racers who turned 100+ laps. Matt and Jimmy rounded out the top half of the field. Fray/SS on the Shamrock Glen The driving challenge on the Shamrock Glen is that 2 lanes have the driving stations on one side of the L shaped track and 2 lanes have the stations on the other side of the L. This gives an entirely different perception as the cars that were passing across in front of the driver are now going away and toward the driver and vice versa when you shift lanes and driving stations. Dave Lockwood was the only racer to turn 100 laps to take the win. Peter was close behind to take second with 99 laps 46 sections and “ Mr. Consistency” Donnie Hall took his third 3rd place of the day with 96 laps. Paul, Jim Kostinden and Joe Rinn rounded out the top half of the field It was a fun day of racing and thank you Peter for your hospitality. Our next race will be our first race of the Outlaw season Showdown at Silvermine at Dave Lockwood’s in Norwalk, CT. We’ll race Grand National on the DBL, E-Fray on the Wizz Track, Magnatraction with Can Am bodies on the DBL . Reminder for those who haven’t paid their dues for the 2023-2024 season, dues are due!!! See Jimmy with your 20.
