April 27, 2016 | Paul Ryer A Baker’s Dozen showed up at South Shore Speedway Hingham Massachusetts, April 17, 2016 – Donuts and coffee? Check. Pasta and chicken parm? Check. Track clean and power at 20 volts? Check. All right kids, it’s time for some racing at South Shore Speedway. Thirteen drivers showed up to rub fenders on the Elvis road course. We’re running the fast stuff here. Limited SS with Trans-Am bodies, ECHORR SS, and a favorite of the host, Magnatraction with IMSA/Trans-AM bodies. Driver’s started wandering in around 8 and practice went to 10:15. The House was geared up for ECHORR SS and Magnatraction and still struggling with Limited SS. Round tires would probably help there. Great to see Greg W. out and about. Bill C. had the full store. Life is good. First up was Limited SS. A good looking field of Trans-Am cars took the field with a mix of Mustangs, Camaros, ‘Cuda and Challengers. House was running the sole Cougar and one AMX rounded out the field. Flash set high heat total of 26 laps in yellow giving him third place. Rick H took second by sections with a good constant run. Greg W showed he still has it with a one lap lead over Rick and Flash to take the top spot on the podium and the fastest lap of 6.548 seconds in yellow. Oh Jimmy just missed the podium with a solid run. Pushing a little harder in Green might have gotten him on the podium or might have dropped him in the order. In any case first to fourth was only separated by two laps with the rest of field at least four laps back. But there were plenty of ties through the middle of the field so racing was close. As usual the track was quiet as Outlaws fueled up for the afternoon races. Thanks to Mrs. House for prepping lunch. Once lunch had been consumed it was time for some ECHORR SS. Some new brushes and tweeking on the shoes had House’s 12 tooth car running fast. As usual, Greg W, Flash, Ryan we also looking quick. Once racing started it became obvious that you had to be laying down 25 or 26 laps per heat if you wanted to be on the podium. House was showing way it’s great to be the track owner with high heat total of the day with 28 laps in green (Ryan laid down 28 laps as well in yellow). The disaster struck. A broken pin in the Red lane turned our hero into a zero. First to last in one heat. Some much for super tough “white rhino” guide pins. They ain’t so tough. 100 seemed to be a favorite number with four drivers sharing that lap total. 101 was want got you on the podium and Greg W took that spot. Flash bettered his third place finish from the first place race with second place with 103 laps. Ryan took the top spot with 105 laps and fastest lap with a 6.056 second lap in Blue. Once again, close racing throughout the field. The Datsun 240Z seems to be the body of choice with most of the field running that body. These cars are fantastic on this track. Mid 5 second lap times and 30 laps per lane was where you wanted to be. Greg W and Paul shared top heat lap total with 32 laps. Paul did it in red and Greg did it in blue. Fastest lap went to Greg W with a 5.263 second lap in blue. Turning laps was the key to this race and Greg cranked out 118 laps to take third place by a section over Oh Jimmy. That was the second fourth place of the day for Oh Jimmy. Flash (aka Mr. Consistency) hammered out 119 laps for second place. House kept it together and laid down 122 laps for first place.
