January 6, 2018 | Paul Ryer Turnout was a little light at little Greg’s race. I think the prior evenings snowfall kept some people away. 10 outlaws braved the elements to do battle on the very fast and technical MaxTrax road course. We had a surprise guest in the house all the way from Arizona, it seems we can’t get rid of that Russ fella. In all honesty it was great to see Russ back in the mass/Connecticut area, he is forever connected to our outlaw club even if he left us for warmer weather! By 8:05 the basement was filling up and racers were dialing in their grand nationals, limited SS, and SS cars. After our standard drivers meeting it was time to hit the track. First up was grand national. Taking down the win and running away from the field was Flash with 72 laps, I think that may be a new track record. Second was Dave L with 68, third was Dave 2 with 66 great run Dave, fourth was Steve at 64 and 46 sections, and rounding out the top five was Paul R with 64 and 25 sections. After the first race we broke for lunch. Little Greg smokes some delicious pulled pork and accompanied it with all the fixings, if you closed your eyes it almost seemed like a summer bbq in July rather than a snowy Sunday in December. The second race of the day was limited SS. This race saw a mix of dash and JL cars. I think the verdict is still out on which setup is best, it really depends on the track and conditions. Anyways, finishing order was flash taking another win at 86 laps, second was Dave L. at 82 laps, thirds was AZ kid Russ at 81, fourth was Greg B at 77, and fifth was Rick M. also at 77 but 12 sections behind Greg. Between the second and third race we took a quick break to embarrass Rick M with a B-day cake as it was his birthday. All I am going to say is I’m glad our club is better at racing then we are at singing! Final race of the day was the feature super stock race. When the dust settled it was… you guessed it… Flash sweeping the day and winning the SS race with 96 laps (I think another track record). Second was track owner Greg B at 95, third was Dave L. with 90, fourth was Paul R. with 87, and rounding out the top five was Russ with 85. I think we may need to stop inviting Flash to these races!
