February 16, 2022 | Jim Colligan Feb 5th race “The Freezer” 2021-22 season On Saturday February 5th, 10 Outlaws braved the winter weather and arrived at Len Jet Raceway to race tjets. Practice ended around 10, cars were teched where we caught one racer trying to run hobby stock with a weighted front end and a Fray body!!!!!! We passed on a driver’s meeting and went racing . Hobby Stock Race on the Champion Flash took the win with 86 laps followed by Donnie with 80 laps and Cody with 78 laps Hal and Terry filled out the top half of the field. A reminder to all that the Hobby Stock class doesn’t allow Fray lightweight bodies!!!!! Nascar Efray on the Boomarang The second race of the day was the first time we raced Efray on the Boomarang. Bodies were mostly Life Like Nascar bodies custom mounted to the tjet chassis by attaching tjet posts to the bodies. A builder note: When you think that the posts are securely mounted add a little more epoxy or JB Weld around the base of the post.. Posts sometimes don’t survive high speed crashes. Flash took the win with 76 laps but Donnie was in hot pursuit when he crashed into a crash and the body exploded with posts flying everywhere! Donnie replaced the body with another one but ended up with 75 laps. It was the best chance the field had from preventing a sweep by Flash. Peter took the final step on the podium with 72 laps. Bruce Olsen and John Schoenfeld rounded out the top half of the field IROC Trans Ams on the 5 lane Tub Joe Escalante prepped the new One Stop Slot Shop TFX Tjet Chassis featuring some terrific enhancements to the original Aurora chassis including pop in rear axles and a gear plate that is trimmed down to allow bodies to sit lower without modifying the chassis. The top plate gears are not compatible with Aurora or Dash gears but yield the same ratio. You can order the chassis with 15T or 19T crown gears and 16.5 or 20 Ohm armatures. There are also a lot of little detail improvements incorporated into the design as well. Joe lowered a set of Autoworld’s new Trans Am bodies of Swede Savages’s Plymouth Cuda, Jim Hall’s Camaro, Sam Posy’s Dodge Challenger, Dan Gurney’s Mercury Cougar and the orange Parnelli Jones Boss 302 Ford Mustang. The cars were beautiful and ran great. Good job Joe. Flash made it a clean sweep for the day demolishing the field with a140 laps followed by Peter in second with 133 laps and Cody in third with 131 laps. Jimmy C and Donnie rounded out the top half of the field. Thank you Peter for your hospitality as always and thanks Joe Escalante for providing a great IROC set and congratulations to Flash for a clean sweep.
