June 2019: Summer Series Race 1

The First Summer Series Race at Len Jet Race Report

On Saturday, June 15th 20 Outlaw racer made their way to Lenjet Raceway in Ashland, MA for the first of three Summer Series Races. After practice for the Fray Super Stock race on the Shamrock Glen and Indy Cars on the Bear, the drivers meeting was conducted by Dave Lockwood. Since Greg W wasn’t able to attend, there was no treasurer’s report. During the Day a poll was taken as to when to have the rules meeting and the decision was made to have the rules meeting after the Second Summer Series Race July 27th Because there were 20 racers, the racers were divided into 2 groups for the first two races with half racing Fray SS on the Shamrock Glen and half racing Indy Cars on the Bear.

Indy Car:

Greg B took the win with Dave 3 laps back and a lap ahead of Flash in third. Rickey, Cody, Peter, Jimmy C, Steve, John and Tom filled out the top half of the field. Racing was close as 2 racers were tied with 78 laps, 3 with 75, 3 with 74 and 2 with 72!

Fray Superstock:

Fray SS rules were used so only 9T Pinion gears were allowed as opposed to ECHORR SS rules that allow 12 or 14T pinion gears. Dave took the win with Peter over Greg B by sections for second and third. Flash, Donnie, Paul Ryer, Cody, Steve, Joe and Jimmy C rounded out the top half of the field.

We then broke for Lunch (Pizza) The last race of the day was an IROC race using a set of Peter’s SS Ford GT 40s run on the Bear. The race was originally planned on the Python but computer issues dictated switching to another track. Paul Ryer took the win followed by Cody and Peter for second and third. Dave, Flash, Donnie, Rickey, Steve, Hal and John rounded out the top half of the field. Again racing was tight as 2 racers tied for 60, 4 with 59, 2 with 58, 2 with 57, 5 with 56 and 2 with 54. An interesting piece of data was that 15 of the 20 racers finished in the top half of the field in at least one race Great day of racing on a terrific track and thanks to Peter Lentros for being a terrific host and providing a great venue for us to race on.

Thanks Jimmy for the race report!
