June 6, 2016 | Jim Hoar One of the highlight races of our schedule every year is the big kahoona race held at the Pronyne Museum on Cleveland St.in Pawtucket,RI. It was kindof regrettable that only 10 racers could make this special event, especially because it is the final race on the clubs present schedule. We have been big supporters of the museum for a few years now and we all know Ric deserves the maximum help we can give his efforts to keep the place running. Were else in this country can you sit on Bugsy Steven’s #3 “Ole Blue”front tire while you work on a HO slotcar??? Just here my friends, just here. Fitting into the theme of retro looking old cars, Rick H’s gray/pewter/silver Gremlin modified creation was voted as Best Appearing by Ric and his other staffer. That’s like the second or third time that car has won the award so it’s obviously not been wrecked enough yet. First class on the not so good ole’ Roll’n “O” track was the Grand Nationals and the field was pretty good looking too, better than last nights NASCAR All-Star fiasco…(hint to sarcasm). Wishing he could have won a million dollars for taking the win like Lagano did was Mr.Rick H who ran 282 laps for his first of two feature wins of the day. Second place and only one lap less was Paul “was that me?” Moreau for a impressive finish and taking third was his cohort in crime,Rick Morrisette by putting down 279 laps. 4th–Flash,5th–Matt P,6th–Paul R,7th–Rudy U,8th–Steve N,9th–Jim H,10th–Bill C. Second race of the day was the Limited SS cars with NASCAR verion bodies attached. Having a little more success at staying in the track vs being off it helped Rick H.take the win in this class also. He ran 333 laps. The reincarnation of Jerry Garcia, alias Bill Craven, wooped the field in his beautiful Ford Torino for Second Place by running 329 laps. Third and fourth spots were real close but Flash took the honors by running 7 sections more of the 316 laps that he and Steve N.ran, who got 4th spot. 5th–Matt P (again),6th–Jim H,7th–Rudy U,8th–Paul R,9th–Rick M and 10th was Paul M. Run what ya brung class, well almost kindof there are some rules for the Coupes, but we all love this class either for the speed stuff or customizing aspect. Dave K “Flash” goes for the speed aspect with his multi-green old-time Dave Howarth “ACME Clip Coupe” body/AFX chassis rocket and did 317 laps for the win. Rick H got another Top 3 spot by finishing in Second Place by running 305 laps and taking Third Place was Rudy “Big ole’Rooster” Urban who put down 285 laps. 4th–Rick M,5th–Jim “Holy Crap” H,6th–Matt P,7th–Paul “Hey,I made the Top 10 all day” Ryer, 8th–Bill C., 9th–Steve N and 10th was Paul M. The Roll’n “O” is starting to show some significant wear and tear/transporting malfunctions as well as needing a possible computer hardware/software improvement, so keep this in mind when we discuss it at the club banquet/rules meeting soon. Red Lane died at the Stafford Speedway event and then now the Blue Lane is having issues with power/scoring.
