July 2, 2022 | Jim Colligan May 21, 2022 “Museum Madness” 2021-22 season On Saturday May 21, 13 Outlaws arrived at Len Jet Raceway for the last race of the season. Practice ended around 10, cars were teched and Dave Lockwood conducted the driver’s meeting. Big Greg announced that he will be stepping down as treasurer after filling the role for what seems forever and hoped that an outlaw would step up. The Hopra Nats will be run in June and Paul Ryer is looking for help in running the tjet races. With Jalopies , Grand National and Coupes there were plenty of good looking cars to choose from and it was Donnie Hall’s Grand National that was voted best appearing car. Jalopies on the Champion Flash returned to his winning ways totaling 94 laps 28 sections to Paul Ryer’s 94 laps 8 sections. Flash and Paul really smoked the field as no one else was close but Terry took the final step on the podium with 88 laps. Donnie, Joe Rinn, Big Greg and Peter rounded out the top half of the field. Peter and Jimmy tied for laps and sections but they were both in the last heat and Peter was ahead by 4 inches when the cars rolled to a stop. Just needed one less Oh Jimmy!!!!! Grand National on the Python Paul Ryer (79 laps 56 sections) took the win by sections over Dave (79 laps 27 sections). Flash took third with 77 laps. Peter, Hal, Joe Rinn and Donnie rounded out the top half of the field. Coupes on the Champion While the press release declares the Coupes as a New England favorite, many of the racers were anxious about their ability to handle high horsepower/ ill handling cars. The Champion with it’s three hairpins lived up to the challenge. When the carnage was over it was big Greg winning by 3 laps over Peter. Greg built a blazing fast tjet and drove it masterfully for a lap total of 107. Peter had 104 laps and Paul took third at 102 laps. (That gave Paul a first, a second and a third in the three races). Flash, Jimmy and Donnie filled out the top half of the field. It was a fun season of racing and thank you Peter for your hospitality as always. Hopefully we’ll have a couple of summer series races maybe one including a rules meeting.
