December 24, 2023 | Jim Colligan November 18, 2023 “The Skidmark 500” On Saturday November 18th, 19 Outlaws arrived at Rick Morrissette’s to race the Skidmark 500. Rick has 2 tracks: Russ Upton’s Doval and Pat Dube’s track. After practice, Dave conducted the driver’s meeting, and it was decided to conduct the first 2 races simultaneously with half running Indy Roadsters on the Doval and the other half running SS limited on the Pat Dube track. Then after lunch we would all run Coupes on the Doval. Ricky Hubert was awarded for best appearing with his # 8 Coupe. Indy Roadsters on the Doval Long straightaways and a hairpin at each end make for a very challenging track and all but three racers had at least 6 offs but Peter Lentros only had one!!!!!! Flash and Paul Ryer had 4. We used the same rules we used on the Rolling O last May at Lenjet. A racer is allowed 3 offs in a heat and if he has a fourth, he sits out the rest of the heat. We used our traditional Echorr Indy chassis but for the oval, roadster bodies were specified. Despite having 8 offs Dave Lockwood took the win by 5 laps over Big Greg with flash taking 3rd 2 laps behind Greg. Paul, Ricky, Peter, Joe Escalante, Jimmy, Rick M and Jim Kovinden rounded out the top half of the field. Correction: Jim K had 307 laps with 8 offs giving him a final total of 299 and moving him up the order. Limited SS on the Pat Dubie track The Limited SS class allows Aurora, JL/AW and Dash chassis to run against each with SS preparation and parts, but the arms must match the chassis and must be stock …no balancing or truing allowed. Flash took the win with Peter less than a half a lap behind for second. Dave took third 2 laps behind Peter. Big Greg, Rick M, Paul, Terry, Jim K, Joe Rinn, and Joe Escalante rounded out the top half of the field. Coupes on the Doval One of the fastest classes the Outlaws run. Two chassis form the basis for the cars. AFX Non-MT and Tjet. Arms are open. Tjets can run sponge silicone tires, Non-MT AFX chassis must run slip ons. Cars are really fast on the straights and then you have the haipins at each end. Most racers almost filled up their circles on the score sheet with offs but Big Greg and Peter only had three!!! Quite the achievement. Staying in the slot helped Peter take the win and Greg second. Probably a good lesson for us all…. especially for your race reporter. Paul Ryer took third in a Gremlin which should be an embarrassment to us all… getting beaten by a Gremlin! Flash, Ricky, Terry, Jim K and Joe Escalante rounded out the top half of the field. Thanks Rick for a great day of racing. Our next race will be the Lenjet All Star race and Body Swap at Lenjet Raceway on Dec 16th and the classes will be Hobby Stock on the Python, Grand National on the Shamrock Glen and E-Fray on the Tub. For the new racers, bring a body that can be used in one of the Outlaw classes to enter the swap. Bodies are lined up and names are drawn from a hat for each body
