November 24, 2019 | Paul Ryer On Saturday, October 19th, 2019, 25 Outlaw racers made their way to Lenjet Raceway in Ashland, MA for the second race of the 2019 season. After practice for the Indy Cars on the Champion and Super Stock on the Python, the drivers meeting was conducted by Dave Lockwood. Dave recognized the 515 Team that included Greg W and Steve for coming in third in the Challenge and Greg taking second place in the Super stock race. The club is working to finalize details on the purchase of the newly approved Yellow Bee magnets for the super stock and coupes classes. Best appearing car voted on by the racers was a beautiful metallic blue and silver Coors Indy car painted by Joe Escalante. Because there were 25 racers, the racers were divided into 2 groups for the first two races with half racing Fray SS on the Python and half racing Indy Cars on the Champion. Indy Car: Flash took the win with Dave Lockwood 2 laps back and 2 laps ahead of Peter Lentros in third. Greg W, Joe Rinn, Steve, Donnie, Rob, Dave P, Tom, Joe E, , Terry and Paul Ryer filled out the top half of the field. Racing was close as there were 6 racers in positions 4-9 within 2 laps of each other and positions 11 -17 had 7 racers within 2 laps of each other. Super Stock: Greg B smoked the field in one of the most dominating performances by an Outlaw in the history of the club. Greg did 114 laps with Dave Lockwood at 105 and Peter Lentros at 104 to complete the podium. Rob, Flash, Donnie, Greg W, Paul R, Jim Mac, Steve N, Jimmy C, Dave P and Ricky completed the top half of the field. IROC: As is normally the case, the IROC race saw the closest racing of the day. Evenly matched Karman Ghias (Thanks Greg W for the excellent cars!). The spread between the winner ( Greg W 76 laps) and 20th place was only 10 laps with the top 10 finishers separated by just 4 laps! Joe Rinn and Greg B were both a lap behind Greg W. with Joe taking the second step on the podium by sections. Flash, Peter L, Dave L, Ricky, Paul R, Steve, Matt and Jim Hoar rounded out the top half of the field. We had a great day of racing and thanks to Peter for being the great host as always! Next Race is November 16th at Dan DeCosmo’s Taj MaHO where we will be running Grand National, Super Stock and an IROC Race.
