October 1, 2016 | Jim Hoar Insanity ran rampant at the Raducah’s awesome Rapid Raceway in Plainville,CT. Reason for that opening statement is the types of phrases heard during the practice session and race event. Not repeatable on this site due to it’s graphic content but oh man, somebodies Mom is gonna have a good time and a lot of explaining to do… But a totally fun day was had by the 15 racers who attended the event overseen by the clubs new Director, Matt Patrick. The topic of clarifying what is allowed in the Limited Stock Class in ways of gears, interchangeable parts, etc was discussed and voted on. Refer to club rules for notable changes. Jim H. gave a update on his and Mark Kaminsky’s work to get some new club t-shirts for everyone and the final redo of the club logo is almost done for folks review. Best Appearance Award was won by O’Jimmy C. ,who showed up with a top level Grand National Torino #121 replica. Luckily, it looked just as good at the end of the race too. Just a reminder to all that once your car has won the award, it is no longer eligible for another win for that racing season. So the Grand National class started the clubs 2016-2017 racing season by running on Dave Lockwood’s amazing DBL portable track that was again in fine shape after it’s trip up from Wilton. Insanity style driving, and staying in the lane, was the key to the top 3 podium finishers, which were Dave-Flash, Greg W.and Jim “Psycho”Hoar. Flash ran 106 laps for the Win, Greg W did 104 laps and Hoar did 102 laps in the new Pat Dube painted 06 Neil “Soapy” Castles #06 Superbird. Dave L. came in 4th with 100 laps and 5 th was Rick H. with 99 laps. 6-15th spots respectively were: Paul R, Matt P, Steve N, Dave 2,Paul M,Rick M,Bill C,Ron D,Jim C and Butch S. The thundering old T-Jet based ECHORR Super Stock (SS) class was next so a full field could stay and race the expensive stuff before other commitments required them to leave us (how insane is that ? ). So the battle began, lane by lane, with the hopes that every track marshal would be blind to every other car off the track except for theirs, and in the end, the guy getting the win was Dave L who ran 140 laps with a Fast Lap of 4.685. 2nd place was Paul Ryer, a close 137 laps but Flash was well on his way to catching him but came up a lap short and was on the podium at 3rd place. 4th was Rick H with 133 and 5th was Steve N.with a good run of 132 laps. 6-15th respectively were: Matt P, Rick M, Ron D, Jim C, Bill C, Jim H, Dave 2, Paul M, Greg W,,(Insane result) and Butch S. SO, what happens when a bunch of guys who race non-magnet style slotcars have to adapt to running a semi-gripping style magnet chassis known as our Magna-traction Class. Yeah, totall insanity again. Some neat old style Can-AM,open cockpit only, road racers including Ferrari’s, Lola’s and Porsche’s would have been hauled away in trash bins instead of car haulers in real life cuz we wrecked ALOT….but it was about having fun, seriously.!!!! Getting his big win of the day was Rick H.who survived the carnage and tallied 151 laps. Greg W.was on fire and very damn close but got 2nd place with 150 laps. And, Dave-Flash, was in the hunt for another podium spot and wound up in 3rd place with 149 laps. 4th was O’Jimmy C (we heard him say that alot in this race),putting up 144 laps and 5th was Paul R with 141. 6th-11 was: Dave L, Matt P, Jim H, Bill C,Ron D and Butch S.(Mr.Consistent). NEXT RACE on OCT 9th is the MUST ATTEND ANNUAL BIG TIME RACE in MAINE, THE GRILL’N-N-CHILL’N … Come up on Sat. afternoon if you want, spend the night, enjoy some great food and a sleep here instead of driving up and back in one day.
