T-Jet Turnpike Race Report

On Saturday September 16, fifteen Outlaws made their way to Greg Wisniewski’s T-Jet Turnpike in New Britain, CT. for the first race of the 2018-2019 season.   After practice, a drivers’ meeting was held which included a treasurer’s report, some discussion of the Outlaws hosting an east coast T-Jet race and a moment of silence to remember Pat Dube who just passed after a long illness.

First race up was Hobby Stock.  As with Greg’s recent races, any Aurora body could be used as well as any body Pat Dube painted.  Dave Lockwood’s Fireball Roberts 57 Chevy painted by Pat won best appearing car.  Racing at the sharp end of the field was tight as Flash in a short wheelbase Daytona Coupe (115 laps) finished first by 12 sections over Greg W’s beautiful original Dodge Charger and Dave Lockwood (111 laps) finished third by 4 sections over Greg Bernstein.

After Lunch (some delicious pizza), the next race up was an IROC race.  This year 5 of our races will include an IROC race.  Greg W prepped chassis that included Dash 2 lam arms and top plate gears that ran under beautiful Dodge Daytona bodies painted by Pat Dube and they ran fast.  Again the racing was really tight as Greg W (128 laps) took first by 12 sections over Flash and Greg B took 3rd one lap behind.  Jim Hoar took 4th and Dave Lockwood 5th both with 123 laps.

The last race of the day was the ever popular Magnatraction class.  MTs are the fastest class the Outlaws run and there are some really good cars.  Flash pretty much dominated taking first with 175 laps over Paul Ryer’s Matador Taxi and Greg B’s Datsun 240Z.  4th and 5th were Dave Lockwood and Steve Neilsen (nice drive Steve).  Mark Kaminsky joined us for the day and was competitive all day and took a 6th in the feature race.

The last summer series race will be Sunday September 23 at Lenjet.  Classes will be Nostalgia, IROC and Fray Super Stock

Thanks Jimmy for the race report!
