On Saturday September 17th, 17 Outlaws made their way to Lenjet Raceway for the first race of the 2021-2022 season. We raced some of our favorite classes and tracks in preparation for the Halloween Havoc. ( If you haven’t signed up yet, it’s time to do so. Send Dave Lockwood an email dblracer@yahoo.com with your tee shirt size and arrange to make the nominal $20 payment for three days of racing!

Practice ended at 9:40. Racers signed in and turned their cars into Tech. After a short drivers meeting and awarding Donnie Hall best appearing for his Grand National Racer, we were ready to race.

Race One Grand National on the Tub:

First race up was on the 5 lane routed tub track. ( The original was 6 lanes but when Peter commissioned the track wanted to use standard lane widths.) Flash took the win with 130 laps and Paul Ryer finished second with 127 laps. Cody took the final step on the podium with 123 laps. Joe Rinn, Bruce, Peter, Tom and Terry rounded out the top half of the field.

Race Two E-Fray on the Champion:

After a Pizza lunch, we raced E-Fray on the Champion. The Outlaws have done a ton of races on the Champion which is a favorite of the racers. Flash again took the win with 113 laps:17 sections with Cody second with 113 laps:6sections, Donny took third with 112 laps:50 sections with Peter fourth with 112 laps: 39 sections! So the racing at the sharp end of the field was really close. Joe Rinn, Rick, Paul and Tom filled out the top half of the field.

Race Three Magnatraction with Can Am bodies on the Purple Mile:

The last race of the day was held on the famous Purple Mile. The track is over 80 Feet long and the longest track that the Outlaws race on. Taking the win was Paul Ryer with 150 Laps. He also had fastest lap of the race in 5 of the 6 lanes. Peter was second with 146 laps. Considering how long a lap is, winning by 4 laps was a dominating win. Flash took the last step on the podium finishing third with 145 laps. John, Cody, Jimmy, Hal and Tom filled out the top half of the field.

An interesting data point ….13 of the 17 racers finished in the top half of the field in at least one race!

Thanks Peter for a great day of racing and for your hospitality!

Next race is October 23 rd at Lenjet. SS on the Bear. Indy on the Shamrock Glen IROC on the Python.
