October 9, 2022 | Jim Colligan Sept 17, 2022 Rumble in Ashland On Saturday September 17th, 15 Outlaws arrived at Len Jet Raceway for the first race of the Outlaw 2022/2023 season. After practice, cars were teched and Paul Ryer conducted the driver’s meeting in Dave Lockwood’s absence. Joe Rinn took the Best Appearing award with his E-Fray car. Congratulations Joe! Grand National on the Python Flash took the win with 78 laps 50 sections to Paul Ryer’s 77 laps 17 sections so the margin was closer to a lap and a half. Big Greg took 3rd 4 laps behind Paul so the 2 front runners really ran away with the race. Matt G, Cody, Hal, Terry and Donnie filled out the top half of the field. e-Fray on the Champion Flash repeated his performance in the first race by taking the win with 113 laps to Donnie’s 112 laps.Big Greg again took third with 111 laps. Data Point …. I looked up the results of the super stock race on the Champion and the winning total by Paul Ryer was 117 laps. So there was a 4 lap difference between e-Fray and SS. Paul Ryer, Peter, Joe Rinn, Jim Mac and Jimmy rounded out the top half of the field. Can Am Magnatraction on the Purple Mile Our final race for the day was on the Purple Mile. Fastest class of cars we run on the fastest track we run. Without magnet handling through the donut, it separates the boys from the little boys! Paul Ryer set the standard in the first heat taking off like a bat out of hell while Peter dropped the clutch and promptly stalled on the line losing close to 2 laps. I guess pickup shoes are a lot like clutches! Paul finished with a dominating 152 laps with a spectacular 26 laps in purple. Flash took second with 147 laps and Peter recovered to take third with 145 laps. Donnie, Terry, Jimmy and Tom Gray finished out the top half of the field It was a fun day of racing and thank you Peter for your hospitality as always. Our next race will be the LenJet 499 on October 15th. Races will be Indy on the Shamrock Glen, Super Stock on the Bear and IROC on the tub.
