October 9, 2023 | Jim Colligan September 16, 2023 “ Showdown at Silvermine” On Saturday September 16th, 18 Outlaws arrived at Dave Lockwood’s in Norwalk , CT to kickoff the 2023-2024 race season. Dave has 2 tracks the DBL which many of us were familiar with and the newly acquired Wizz Track that was originally RC Lincoln’s track. After practice, Dave conducted the driver’s meeting and it was decided to conduct the first 2 races simultaneously with half running Grand National on the DBL and the other half running E-Fray on the Wizz track. Terry Ayer won the award for best appearing with his Grand National car. Grand National on the DBL The gutter hairpins are what makes the DBL a challenge and catches many of the racers out. It was hammer and tongs at the sharp end of the field as Dave Lockwood took the win over Flash by 9 sections 105.17 laps to 105.8! Peter Lentros took the final step on the podium over Paul Ryer with 104.26 laps to 104.6. Pitstop, Big Greg, little Greg, Steve Nelson, and Joe Rinn rounded out the top half of the field E-Fray on the Wizz Track The Wizz Track’s biggest challenge are the 2 corners at the end of the long straight. The first corner is a banked left hander and fast, the second is a sharper left hander which you either take too fast or give up way too much speed on the fast left and tip toeing thru the second one. Little Greg turned 94 laps and ran away and hid besting Peter Lentros by 3 laps. Big Greg took third with 88 laps. Donnie Hall, Joe Rinn, Jim K, Terry, Flash and Paul Ryer rounded out the top half of the field Can Am Magnatraction on the DBL We traditionally ran our first Magnatraction race of the season on the DBL prior to the pandemic. This season we returned to our tradition and with Can Am bodies. The MT class is our fastest class and separates the boys from the little boys. Well Big Greg proved to be the man taking the win by 4 laps over Paul Ryer who was unbeatable last year. Dave Lockwood took the final step on the podium. Flash, Terry, Jimmy, Joe Rinn, John Schoenfeld and Bruce rounded out the top half of the field. Dave was a great host and a lot of guys showed their support for Dave and all he has done for the club by traveling long distances to race . Our next race will be at LenJet October 21 and the classes will be SS on the Champion, Indy on the Bear and IROC on the Tub.
